Fiber Arts

Fiber Arts

Fiber arts have been a primary stress reliever and creative outlet for me since 2013.

It started with knitting when I was briefly unemployed in my early 20s and living next to a yarn store, and since then my interest has expanded into weaving and spinning yarn from fiber. The fiber arts community is a vibrant and inviting one, and I have made many friends in the process of enjoying the craft.

Antique 4-Shaft Loom

Weaving is one of my many fiber arts practices, and it all happens on this antique (1920’s) table loom gifted to me by my MIL. As it was making its way across the country on Greyhound buses, I was busy planning how to convert what had been a very basic shaft-lifting mechanism into a pulley-based floor loom, and completed the conversion when it arrived to me in San Francisco. I use the iPad and special software to help me keep track of which pedal to push next in my pattern when it’s particularly complicated.

Yarn Stash

For many fiber artists, buying yarn can be a hobby all on its own. I’m certainly not immune, and keep my yarn displayed in my home for easy access.
